What is mesothelioma? Mesothelioma is a terminal cancer that is caused by steady exposure, over time, to asbestos. Many victims worked in the construction and automotive industries, where widespread asbestos use was prevalent into the 1970s. Symptoms take a very long time to appear, typically decades. This makes diagnosis difficult until the disease is well into its later stages, when it is too late to treat the disease effectively. Every case is different, and results can depend on many circumstances: judge and jury, strength of the case, and venue, to name a few. That makes it impossible to predict the recovery that any one case may bring. In many instances, however, prevailing plaintiffs have received six- and seven-figure awards for their injuries and pain and suffering. |
