IVC Filter Attorney Joe Johnson Interviewed on WPTV West Palm Beach
Attorney Joe Johnson of Babbitt and Johnson P.A. interviewed on NBC affiliate about potentially dangerous complications associated with blood clot filters called Inferior Vena Cava filters.

Joe Johnson was interviewed on the NBC news affiliate WPTV West Palm Beach speaking about the lawsuit and the dangerous complications from the IVC filters. Over 100,000 people have these filters implanted in them and Johnson said in the interview, “They have a failure rate of 50%.” That number was obtained directly from Bard’s documents.
“These devices are meant to save lives from complications of blood clots and instead they are putting people at risk for serious internal injuries and even death. The fact that the manufacturer was aware of this but continued to sell and market this medical device is unacceptable,” Johnson continued.
An IVC Filter is a device that is implanted in the inferior vena cava to filter or “catch” blood clots from the lower portions of the body before they travel to the heart and lungs. The filters have been linked to serious injuries caused by parts of the device breaking loose, movement of the device through the body, puncture or perforation of the organs from parts of the device, blockage of blood vessels, and/or the device being lodged in the wrong part of the body.
As early as 2003, Bard’s Recovery IVC Filter posed an unreasonable danger from splintering, according to Bard’s own research. They continued to sell those devices without notifying the FDA about their findings or warning doctors and patients of potential issues with the device. The Recovery IVC Filter was replaced by the G2 in 2005, and since then, the FDA has received 921 adverse reports involving IVC filters; 328 involved device migration; 146 involved detachments of device components; 70 involved perforation of the IVC; 56 involved the filter breaking.
